7 ridiculous reality TV shows you probably forgot existed that deserve a comeback

Whether it’s The Only Way Is Essex’s infamous BAFTA win or the record breaking number of Love Island applications, it doesn’t take rocket science to establish that we’re a nation of reality TV lovers.

And as much as people may dismiss the genre as being nothing more than a guilty pleasure, not much beats a bit of drama in our lives – or rather, screens.

From Come Dine With Me blessing us with the Shakespearean “what a sad little life Jane” speech to Celebrity Big Brother’s Tiffany Pollard mistakenly believing that David Gest was dead, reality TV is the gift that keeps on giving.

On a mission to learn about all things politics, former TOWIE star Joey Essex toured the Houses of Parliament in an intensive course on the General Election.

Meeting Nigel Farage, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg, the 31 year old prompted the Lib Dems to briefly change their name to the ‘Liberal Democats’, revealing that if he was in power he’d give away holidays to Marbs.

Coming out of the experience, Joey encouraged everyone to vote and explained one key lesson: “I’ve learnt that Parliament is not a person, it’s a thing. It’s a house.”

Having launched in 2011, the talent show was an alternative to Britain’s Next Top Model, aiming to find the next big name in modelling.

Taking to Westfield shopping centres to whittle down the 10,000 applicants, 13 eager finalists were chosen by the Pricey before battling against one another to secure a contract from the businesswoman.

Though the show wasn’t commissioned for a second series, you can’t fault Katie’s ability for being able to identify a future celeb as Rylan Clark, Amy Willerton and Jemma Lucy all appeared on the show.

The Bachelor UK

The franchise itself was nothing out of the ordinary but before his relationship with Vogue Williams, former Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews made an unlikely appearance on the show in 2012.

Out of 24 potential bachelorettes, Spencer chose to pair up with winner Khloe Evans. Sadly, their relationship didn’t last the length of the programme, as Spencer was seen with ex-girlfriend Louise Thompson during the six weeks that the series was on air.

Chris and Olivia: Crackin’ On

What was supposed to be a heart-warming show that followed Love Island stars Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood as they attempted to ‘crack on’ outside of the villa turned out to be more like a lesson in when to let a relationship go.

Known for their fiery relationship, the series was filled with non-stop arguments and come episode three, the couple actually ended up breaking up – all on camera, of course.

It was never going to be a Richard Curtis watch, was it?

In an attempt to find herself a new British best friend, the socialite had 12 contestants compete for her friendship.

And to win a place in her inner circle, the tasks contestants had to complete were far from normal, with favourites including performing a talent show in front of Scott Mills and visiting a farm to check how they interacted with animals.

With guest appearances from people including Charlie Sheen and Callum Best, Samuel Hextall was chosen by Paris as her new BBF. It’s unclear whether he and Paris are still friends.

Mark Wright’s Hollywood Nights

Mark Wright and his friends enjoyed the ultimate lads’ holiday on screen

The concept was simple. Mark Wright and his friends jetted off to enjoy a lavish holiday in LA.

Full of pranks, conversations about girls and Essex cliché, the holiday was the ultimate lads’ trip. In fact, during episode one, Mark pranked his friends by telling them that there’d been a shooting next door.

But as the programme was part-real, part-scripted, fans of the show were never really clear about what was real and what was not.
