BGT responds after fans spot singer Nick Edwards wearing microphone in audience

Britain’s Got Talent has responded after fans spotted singer Nick Edwards wearing a microphone in the audience on Saturday’s emotional episode.

During the opening show, Nick was surprised by his kids, who applied on his behalf to perform on the ITV competition, where he was left in “complete shock”.

However, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the contestant was already wearing a microphone on his shirt as they questioned whether Nick knew that the audition was going to take place.

Taking to Twitter, one person said: “Nick had no idea why he was in the #BGT audience Also Nick; wearing a microphone.”

A different account put: “#BritainsGotTalent why did the bloke who was supposedly surprised by his daughter’s have a mic on?”

While another follower added: “Hmm it’s a total surprise but he was already mic’d up? #BritainsGotTalent.”

Britain’s Got Talent has since denied the claims and explained that an “unsuspecting” Nick was approached when he arrived to be part of a “Gogglebox” audience, so that the ITV show could capture his reactions in the audience.

A spokesperson told Daily Mail: “We loved welcoming back our BGT viewers back last night after a year away. To report or allude to anything being staged or contrived regarding Nick’s audition would be false and incorrect.

“Quite simply, when Nick entered the Palladium auditorium during BGT auditions, he was approached to be part of our ‘Gogglebox’ audience and told he would be mic’d up so we could capture his reactions throughout the day as he sat in the audience.

“He was totally unsuspecting. We did this so we could mic him up without him suspecting a thing.”

It comes after host Declan Donnelly couldn’t help but break down into floods of tears as he watched Nick sing for his daughters on Britain’s Got Talent .

Watching from the sidelines was Ant McPartlin, 46, and his presenting partner Dec, 46, who were both taken by the performance.

Dec, who is dad to daughter Isla with wife Ali Astall, couldn’t help but wipe away tears as he watched intently, before turning around and telling the camera: “I’m fine, I’m fine.”

He wasn’t the only one to be left fighting back tears as Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon both felt emotional.
