Corrie teases ‘knife-edge showdown’ between Adam and Lydia on ITV soap

Coronation Street has teased an explosive “knife-edge showdown” between Lydia Chambers and Adam Barlow on the ITV soap.

Only recently, Lydia was revealed to be Adam’s terrifying stalker as she continues to cause chaos in his life and to his marriage with Sarah, who she has befriended at work.

And in upcoming scenes next week, Lydia plants a phone for Sarah to find, claiming it’s the one Adam has been using to call her, and later Adam visits Lydia’s flat to realise he has been set up as the police arrive.

Things take an even more sinister turn when Lydia claims Adam broke in and trashed her flat, and later warns him that she’s not done with him yet…

It comes after Emmerdale and Coronation Street announced big changes to their weeknight scheduling amid a huge ITV shake-up.

Following the news that ITV is extending its national and international news programming, Emmerdale and Corrie will both have new slots and become part of the channel’s “super soap” nights.

From March, Emmerdale will air at a brand new time of 7.30pm, rather than 7pm, as viewers count down to the explosive 50th anniversary celebrations.

After making another discovery about Adam, Sarah sees red. Has scheming Lydia won the battle?

While soap fans will be able to get their Corrie fix during hour-long episodes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at 8pm, instead of two hour-long episodes and a double bill on Fridays.

Teasing what viewers can expect, Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod said: “It’s an exciting time for the show and these stories will propel us into the hour-long era with a bang and all the characteristic drama, humour, twists and intrigue that Corrie viewers have come to expect.

“We’ve got high-octane action with tragic heroine Abi, leading to life and death dilemmas. We’ve got riotous romantic intrigue for Daniel, with deliciously dastardly Daisy pulling out all the stops to keep her man.

“We’ve got the uber-complex Gary, who has finally turned his life around and is atoning for his sins with Kelly, only to find himself facing a final reckoning with the ghosts from his past.

“And we’ve got heart-stopping, high-stakes drama for Sarah, featuring a knife-edge showdown between Adam and his tormentor Lydia, which will leave you wondering which one’s the bad guy. All of this in one big serving per night. What’s not to love?”

Coronation Street continues on weekdays on ITV.
