Danniella Westbrook reveals she’s having £500k surgery for free on the NHS

Danniella Westbrook has revealed her latest plastic surgery, which costs £500,000, will be free on the NHS.

The former EastEnders actress, 48, said she needs the procedures “to survive” and surgeons have said the entire process will cost a whopping half a million pounds.

Danniella, who recently suffered heartbreak following the death of her beloved dog Bruno, will go under the knife for five surgeries, which comes after her collapsed nose has left her struggling to breathe and suffering other complications.

After seven years of trying to find a doctor willing to take on her complicated facial reconstruction, the star was starting to give up on ever being able to afford it.

It was only when the mum-of-two was rushed to hospital with a cold over Christmas that there was finally a light at the end of the tunnel.

“I’ve spent the last seven years trying to get somebody to do it,” Danniella told The Sun. “But they said no in case it failed and they got struck off.

“Plastic surgeons wanted £500,000 to change my face, so I thought I was never going to get it done. It was only because I went into intensive care before Christmas.”

Recalling how she couldn’t breathe due to a build-up of fluid from her cold, Danniella explained that one night she fell asleep and struggled so much that she ended up in the intensive care unit.

The star explained that she was finally put in front of the “right doctors” at Aintree Hospital in Liverpool, otherwise she’d “still be waiting” for the life changing surgeries.

“That’s why I’m doing this. I need this surgery to survive,” the former soap actress continued to the publication. “It’s not for vanity, this is about my health.

“It hampers my lifestyle on a day to day basis.”

Danniella went on to say that while things may get done with a plastic surgeon “faster”, she’s of the belief that you don’t necessarily get the “best result” simply by paying more.

The star is relieved to be going under the knife with specialised doctors, and is grateful to have the “best care in the country”.

Danniella has long suffered with her nose and face following a battle with cocaine abuse that began when she was just 16 years old.

The drug use led to osteoporosis, which causes the rotting of bones, and eventually her septum collapsed.

The star still struggles with recovery, but she has remained clean from the drug for years.
