Helen has previously said how it was her mother who got her into acting and encouraged her career.
Sadly, she was killed in a traffic accident age 49 in 1971 shortly before the actress secured the role that would shoot her to stardom.
The Daily Star reports Helen said in a previous interview: “The one person I really wanted to tell when I got the part of Gail was my mother.
“She would have been so thrilled. More excited than me. She’d been there all the way – at the dance classes, holding my hand before the competitions, putting on her best suit to take me to London for auditions.
“But when I finally made it, she wasn’t there to share it with me. I’d never missed her more.”
Helen has been married twice, originally to the late Michael Angelis, who narrated Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends.
The couple married in 1991, however, their marriage was rocked four years later after he admitted to having an affair.
While Helen found it in herself to forgive Michael, she later divorced him in 2001 when it was revealed that the star had been involved in another affair.
Speaking to the Mirror at the time of their split, Helen said: “Nothing can ever prepare you for the day your husband sits you down and tells you he is having an affair.
“My marriage was everything to me. It was the foundation on which everything else was built. I had been with Michael for nearly half of my life. I never imagined that we wouldn’t grow old together.”
Helen moved on with music teacher Trevor Dawson who she met in 2013, and says it was “love at first sight”.
Speaking to her former co-star Nigel Havers on a segment on This Morning last year, she said: “I met Trevor about 10 years ago and I just thank my lucky stars really. He’s just gorgeous.”
Nigel then asked her if it was love at first sight, to which she quickly responded: “Yes, yes!”
Although she is originally from Morcombe, Helen and Trevor live together in London.
