Aftersun viewers were left stunned on Sunday night when dumped star Ikenna Ekwonna told the panel that the Islanders discovered Gemma was the footballer’s daughter on the “second or third day” in the villa.
Ikenna told host Laura Whitmore: “‘We didn’t really know until the second or third day but I don’t think the girls knew the guys knew.”
Talking about why the moment wasn’t possibly aired on TV, Love Island columnist Shaughna, 28, exclusively told OK! during our weekly live Instagram Let’s Chat, Hun why this could have happened.
After it was pointed out just how random Ikenna’s unexpected reveal was, Shaughna guessed: “I think it may be because it happened in a way that they can’t show it.
“Because when the bombshells come in, we always seem to get a little bit of outside information before they’re told to stop talking,” the star explained.
“So maybe one of the bombshells, probably Jacques [O’Neill], said it, and it happened in a way that they couldn’t really air it.”
The theory would make sense given Jacques and 19 year old Gemma’s prior history before he arrived on the show.
The pair once dated for around eight months a year and a half ago and as soon as Jacques entered the villa Gemma was taken-aback to discover the latest bombshell was her very own ex.
What’s more, at the time, the former lovebirds shared a private chat to catch up, and at one point, Jacques asked the international dressage rider how “the family” were.
In an awkward response to the seemingly-innocent question, Gemma quickly told her ex-flame that they were all “good”, swiftly moving on with the conversation.
Shaughna went on to share her thoughts on Jacques’ puzzling comment during Sunday night’s instalment of the ITV2 show, where he whispered to Paige Thorne in an emotional conversation in the middle of the night that he’d “never felt like this before”.
As viewers across the country cringed for the rugby player’s very own ex Gemma, who was sleeping away in the next room, Shaughna insisted Jacques’ feelings made sense because the two women are “completely different people”.
“I can understand why you’d have completely different feelings for two different people,” the star said. “And again it is really really heightened in there.
“Jacques probably never did see Gemma in a bed with someone else whilst he was in the bed next to her, so there was a range of different emotions he’d probably never felt before.
“But it’s a very tense environment, so I can understand why people do feel like they’re falling in love in there, because you’re in a situation that non one really has ever been in,” Shaughna added.
Love Island continues every night at 9pm on ITV2 and is available to stream on ITV HUB
