Malin Andersson opens up on her break up: ‘It was really intense and a lot of pressure’

Former Love Island star Malin Andersson this week gave new readers a raw insight into what led to the breakdown of her relationship with ex-boyfriend Jared, whom she shares newborn daughter Xaya with.

Last month, the reality star and new-mum announced that she and her out-of-the-spotlight partner had split four weeks prior, following the birth of the daughter in January.

A “blind-sided” Malin wrote on Twitter at the time: “I have always prided myself on being open and transparent on here, so I wanted to let you all know that myself and Jared are no longer together. We split around 4 weeks ago and I have since been trying to come to terms with everything and process it all.

“We are co-parenting Xaya as she of course comes first in all of this, but we would appreciate some space as we navigate through this separation.”

Now, a month following their break-up announcement, Malin exclusively opened up to us about the reason for their decision, insisting that “it was an amicable split”.

“There was a lot of pressure involved. Plus, he’s only ever really known me as hormonal Malin because I’d been pregnant pretty much ever since we’d first gotten together! I was relying on him so much that I feel like he lost himself a bit. It was best for both of us to take some months apart, so that’s what we did.

“We’re now co-parenting Xaya 50/50 and getting on a lot better having our situation like this at the moment – it saved us, in a weird way. But I can definitely see us getting back together at some point in the future when all the baby chaos has finally calmed.”

Malin went public with Jared in July last year, just two months before announcing her pregnancy, revealing that the pair had been close friends for five years before taking their relationship to the next level.

She previously described her mystery man as her “soul mate” when introducing him to her 739,000 Instagram followers, adding: “We have always been friends, and also in and out of each other’s lives.

“He knows every inch of my soul and what I’ve gone through, and has been there throughout which is what makes this so special.”

Malin speaks lovingly to new about Xaya’s father Jared, hoping her daughter will one day take on his “kind soul”, as well as his calmness and patience – qualities she admits she occasionally struggles to exume.

“He’s been the most amazing dad,” she gushes. “He adores Xaya and it’s so heart-warming to see them spending time together because he’s always looking at her with these big lovey-dovey eyes whilst he holds her. And she just loves him, too!”

Despite being known to the world following Malin’s initial pregnancy announcement, Jared has always taken a back-seat when it comes to his own online presence, preferring to remain absent from the public eye.

Wellness blogger Malin told us that her decision for Xaya to follow in her father’s footsteps and remain off-camera was not a difficult one to make.

“I’ve always said that when it comes to my work, I want it to be purely me – what I advocate, what my goals are and what I speak about. I want my family life to be kept private. It can also get really dangerous, bringing babies into the spotlight, because I don’t want her to read terrible things about herself when she’s older that were written when she was a baby.

“I’d hate for her to grow up reading the comments and trolling you often receive when you’re in the public eye. If she wants to make herself known to the world when she’s old enough to make that decision properly, of course I’ll let her, but for now I want to keep her safe and protected.”

As well as detailing her recent break-up, Malin opened up to new about her experience with domestic abuse which she suffered at the hands of ex-boyfriend Tom Kemp.

“I’ve always said that I just want to help people who feel trapped,” Malin passionately told us. “I’ve always said that if I can help at least one person, then I’ve done my job right. But the response has been insane! So many people have been in touch to tell me how much I’ve helped them, it can be quite emotional.”

Despite admitting the difficulty in reliving her haunting experiences whilst writing her brand new book ‘Positivity Is Our Superpower’ – which she described as “almost like therapy” – she explained that it was worth it to know she was helping others that are suffering in silence.

Recalling the violence she’d been subjected to at the hands of her ex, Malin admitted that she still feels the effects of her suffering to this day.

“What Tom put me through affected mine and Jarrod’s relationship so badly, even after almost three years. I carried a lot of my past issues over to my new love life, which is probably one of the main things that brought us to an end – insecurities and fear. Bless him, he dealt with everything so well.

“But this is why securing a healthy relationship means taking some time out for yourself. PTSD is an ongoing journey.”
